While in a QSO tonight on 40M CW, I was using my old Drake Twins having an FB conversion with a fella my same age….and after sending the rig information that I was using, he mentioned he started with Heathkits……and did I always have my Drakes? It occurred to me, Holy Kow, have I had some radios over the years!
Here, in order of the year of acquisition, is the list of “major radio stuff” I have had (doesn’t include the kit built QRP radios – look on the “I Built This” page):
1969 Heathkit HW-16 Transceiver (still have it!)
1977 Yaesu FT-101EE Transceiver (only had it a year)
1978 Kenwood TS-520S with: SP-520 Speaker; AT-200 Antenna Tuner; VFO-520S External VFO (sold it in 1989)
1979 Heathkit HW-8 (my first one – sold it the same year)
1981 Heathkit HW-100 (sold it in 1982)
1989 Yaesu FT-767GX Transceiver (sold it in 2015)
1990 Heathkit SB-1000 1KW Linear Amplifier (sold it in 1993)

2011 ICOM IC-706MKIIG Transceiver (sold it in 2020)
2011 YouKIts QRP Transceiver (sold it in 2014)
2012 Elecraft KX-3 Transceiver (still have it)
2014 Drake 2-C Receiver (still have it)
2015 Yaesu FT-2000 Transceiver (sold it in 2019)
2017 Drake 2-NT Transmitter; also Drake 2-CQ Q-Multiplier
2016 Heathkit HW-7 Transceiver (still have it)
2019 Yaesu FT-DX3000D Transceiver (my primary home radio)
2020 Heathkit HW-8 (actually acquired two units – both work FB!)
2020 Yaesu FT-991A Transceiver (now my primary backup and VHF/UHF and portable radio)
Wow, that’s a lot of radios over the years…………
